UbuntuNet Alliance is pleased to welcome into its family Chris Rohrer, the Special Projects Coordinator who will be based at the secretariat in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Rohrer joined the Alliance at the beginning of December 2015 from SWITCH, the Swiss National Research and Education network where he has been working as a Software Engineer for eight years.
At UbuntuNet Alliance, Chris, as he likes to be called, will be helping with the technical expertise in the execution of work packages in the three Horizon 2020 projects (Sci-GaIA, TANDEM and MAGIC), which UbuntuNet Alliance is partner.
Welcoming the Projects Coordinator at the secretariat, UbuntuNet Alliance CEO Dr. Pascal Hoba said the coming in of Rohrer will accelerate the execution of tasks at the secretariat level especially those requiring his expertise.
And speaking to NUANCE after spending a couple of weeks in Lilongwe, Malawi, Rohrer said he is excited at his new challenge.
“I am really looking forward to working with UbuntuNet Alliance community and to share my expertise in defining and operating federated services for researchers, students and end users within the community. I hope to get the chance to meet as many members of the UbuntuNet Alliance community and other stakeholders in person in the coming months and years.”
Rohrer holds a Master of Science in Neurobiology from the University of Berne as well as a Master of Advanced Studies in Human Computer Interaction Design from the University of Basel.
He becomes the second member of staff to join the UbuntuNet Alliance staff at the secretariat this year after Communications Officer Hastings Ndebvu who joined the secretariat team in July, 2015.
