The Emerging NREN Programme (ENP) took center stage alongside the TCN23 conference, bringing together individuals from emerging National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) worldwide. This unique initiative aimed to integrate NREN staff members into the TNC community, fostering synergies and connections between European and international NRENs. With a focus on engineering and technical personnel, the ENP provided opportunities for valuable participation that would otherwise be unattainable.
After a rigorous selection process, three outstanding individuals from the UbuntuNet Alliance region were chosen to attend the conference as part of the ENP delegation alongside others from other regions of the worlsd. Alexius Chipalamwazani, Network and Infrastructure Manager from MAREN; Lensa Abera, Systems Engineer from EthERNet; and Harold Bowa, Business Development Officer from UbuntuNet Alliance eagerly represented their organizations at the prestigious event.
The ENP participants embarked on a diverse and enriching event program carefully curated to maximize their engagement and knowledge acquisition. The journey commenced with a session dedicated to orienting the attendees on how to make the most of their first TNC experience. This initial guidance prepared them for the immersive conference ahead.
The ENP delegates had the opportunity to attend the main conference’s opening plenary, setting the stage for inspiration and discourse. They were also granted a valuable meeting with the CEO of GEANT, the company responsible for organizing TNC. This encounter allowed for insightful discussions and networking with key industry leaders.
Furthermore, the ENP participants showcased their expertise through lightning talks delivered during one of the TNC23 plenaries. This platform provided a unique opportunity for them to share their insights, experiences, and perspectives with the broader conference audience, fostering cross-pollination of ideas and knowledge exchange.
The ENP experience extended beyond the conference sessions. The delegates enjoyed a networking dinner and engaged in various social events, further strengthening connections and collaborations with their peers from around the world. It proved to be an exceptional avenue for learning, collaboration, and professional growth for all the participants. It facilitated the integration of emerging NRENs into the TNC community, allowing for the exchange of best practices, innovative approaches, and novel solutions. The knowledge gained through this program will undoubtedly contribute to the advancement of research and education networks in the UbuntuNet Alliance region and beyond.
UbuntuNet Alliance expresses profound gratitude on behalf of the ENP participants from the region for this invaluable opportunity. The organization recognizes and promotes the significance of programmes like the ENP in fostering global collaboration, driving technological advancements, and promoting excellence in the research and education community. As the ENP continues to nurture and empower emerging NRENs, its impact reverberates throughout the network community, fostering a more interconnected and inclusive world of research and education.
