TENET’s Project to Connect TVET Colleges in South Africa Gets a Boost as Phase One Nears Completion.

The UbuntuNet Alliance South African member NREN, Tertiary Education & Research Network of South Africa (TENET), is now close to completing the first phase in TVET Colleges Connection Programme (TCCP).

The first phase of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges Connection Programme (TCCP) is the access portion of the project and this involves connecting the TVET colleges to the South African National Research and Education Network (SANReN), the same network to which the 26 public universities are connected.

TENET began investigating options to connect the 50 public TVET colleges in South Africa back in 2015 under the project: TVET Colleges Connection Programme (TCCP). This project was undertaken by their subsidiary organization, South African Broadband Education Networks (SABEN) and it was aimed at connecting the TVET colleges to the SANReN network.

By the start of 2022, through the TCCP, more than half of the 231 TVET college campuses were connected to the SANReN network. TENET plans to connect the remaining 45 campuses by the end of 2022. It is with excitement that ,currently, the TCCP team is gearing up for the start of the second phase of the project. This will see the connection of the campuses to Wi-Fi, for which site surveys have already been completed.

UbuntuNet Alliance congratulates TENET on the great contribution being made to Research and Education in South Africa, and consequently the whole region.
