SomaliREN Chairman Prof. Abdirizak M. Aden (Lafoole) and the Executive Committee are pleased to announce the appointment of Eng. Ahmed D. Siyad as the acting CEO of the Somali Research and Education Network (SomaliREN), effective, November 19, 2022.
Eng. Siyad succeeds Eng. Abdullahi Bihi Hussein who has been serving the NREN for the last 7 years as a CEO and has left the organization after the Federal government of Somalia appointed him a Director of the National Identity and Registration Authority (DADSOM).
Eng. Siyad, who has been serving the NREN since February 2016 as a CTO, will now be the acting CEO.
The acting CEO holds M.Sc. in Networking and Telecommunications (Karachi, Pakistan), and has 10 years of extensive experience in building and managing national research and education network infrastructure services.
On behalf of the entire SomaliREN community, the Executive Committee would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the outgoing CEO, Eng. Abdillahi Bihi Hussein for his extreme dedication, and commitment to keeping the NREN forward, and achieving
significant milestones under his capacity.
SomaliREN is a non-profit, non-governmental membership-based organization founded in August 2008, and owned by its member institutions. As a national research and education network (NREN), it is mandated to build and deploy e-infrastructures for research and education and is registered as such with the relevant agencies and governing bodies.
SomaliREN builds, operates, and maintains e-infrastructures and deploys services that address the needs of the Somali higher education and research institutions, supports the formation of communities of practice, and promotes and builds research capabilities at the member institutions.
