45 Faculty From Outspan Medical College Benefit From KENET Moodle Training.

45 Outspan Medical College (OMC) faculty benefitted from a two-day in person capacity building Moodle Training Course for instructors conducted at OMC between 16th-17th January 2023 by KENET. The training provided hands-on skills on how to add interactive content (e.g., Chats, forums) to a course, configure quizzes and assignments which facilitate evaluation of learners on a particluar course, Gradebook configuration and setup, learner management and generation of reports.

Other Moodle topics covered include the Course feedback tool e.g., surbey which assists the faculty in analyzing the quality of content delivered and if the objectives were met and the Management of Course Data and logs which provide adequate reports  on the participants in a particular course, what role they hold in the system and the time they logged in.

Ruth Wairimu,  the eLearning head at Outspan Medical College appreciated KENET for equipping the fcaulty with hands-on skills which are in line with the institution’s vision. “We thank KENET for conducting the Moodle training which is in line with our vision of providing healthcare solutions and training through compassionate and personaized touch, pegged o critical thinking, innovation and technology, ” said Wairimu. Ruth also emphasized the impact the Moodle training on facilitating the piloting of courses currently being done. “The training will make distance learning more efficient before being officially offered by the institution, “added Wairimu.

The faculty found the training effective and beneficial in their work and they felt that the objectives of the training were clearly defined and met. “Through this training I have gained knowledge of how to create content and improve the student trainer interaction. I believe intergrating eLearning with face-toface learning will work well for my students,”said Caroline Wanjohi, a Nursing Ttutor at Outspan Medical College. 

Speaking during the training, KENET’s Instructional Designer, Zeinab Mzungu commeded the faculty on their interest in Moodle. “There is a good working relationship between ICT and eLearning team. We could see the collaborations during the training and OMC has memebers who are highly interested and showed potential of exploring more features on Moodle, “said Zeinab.

Moodle is a free open-source Learning Management System that facilitates remote learning for institutions. The platform provides an environment for creating interactive courses, obtaining feedback from the feedback tools integrated with the system, conducting online tests, grading of students  and learner management on the platform. In appreciation to the changing trends in digital learning, KENET prides itself in doing intensive research on digital learning platforms and impacting the skills to its member institutions which in turn promote quality remote teaching and learning methodologies.
