The CHAIN-REDS EU FP7 funded project is organising its final conference titled ”Open Science at the Global Scale: Sharing e-Infrastructures, Sharing Knowledge, Sharing Progress” taking place on March 31, 2015 at Marivaux Hotel, Congress and Seminar Centre in Brussels, Belgium. The event will be held under the aegis of the European Commission (DG CONNECT).
The conference aims at bringing together high-level policy-makers and various other international stakeholders in the field (researchers, members of different Research and Education Networks, representatives of the private sector and the civil society, professors and lecturers, etc.). They will discuss the importance of global e-Infrastructure cooperation and its impact on research and society.
The conference programme will feature the following sessions: A high-level policy session bringing together policy-makers from Asia, Africa, Arabia and Latin America who will testify on the benefits of e-Infrastructures for research and education and share their vision on long-term global collaboration; and two end-user oriented sessions with a focus on the impact of CHAIN-REDS-supported solutions in different regions of the world as well as on the project’s vision on further technological cooperation needed by global virtual research communities.
In addition, the results and the impact of the CHAIN-REDS project will be presented on this occasion, these are: The development of a Distributed Computing Infrastructure interoperation model between Europe and other regions; the promotion of international standards and technical guidelines for interoperability of cloud services across continents;, the CHAIN-REDS Knowledge Base (one of the largest existing e-Infrastructure-related digital information systems); and a complete methodology for better sharing and using scientific data.
Other notable contributions of the CHAIN-REDS project are the CHAIN-REDS Science Gateway: a single portal for accessing remote computing and data services anywhere in the world; The support of the creation of Identity Federations to make Authentification and Authorisation easier for users and service providers worldwide and The main outcomes of the six awareness-raising workshops organised by CHAIN-REDS in Asia, Africa, Arabia, and Latin America.
