Theme: “Towards Digital Transformation in Research and Education”

The digitization phenomena characterised by new technologies innovated out of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the 21st century offers unprecedented breakthroughs such as artificial intelligence, Big Data analytics, edge computing, Internet, social media, augmented reality, mobile technologies, blockchain, cloud computing, cyber-physical systems, open education resources, robotics and shared economy applications. These technologies have renewed interest by higher learning and research institutions to investigate their potential to solve the existing challenges in order to shape the future.

It is in this context that the Tanzania Education and Research Network (TERNET) through its first international conference on digital transformation in education and research is inviting practitioners, researchers, and industrialists to explore novel ideas, share topical research findings, discuss lessons learned and success stories, map out major challenges, and collectively debate on future directions for education and research. The conference sub-themes are:

  1. Strategic Planning for Digital Transformation
Abstracts submitted under this theme should cover HERIs efforts and activities that guide the process of setting priorities, allocating resources, and strengthening operations that ensure the institutional goals are met. Activities around performance appraisal and work environment assessment to adjust the organization’s direction in response to a changing environment are also encouraged.
  2. Technical Solutions and Tools for Digital Transformation
Abstracts submitted under this theme should cover innovative solutions and tools that have enabled/are enabling HERIs digital transformation. Example of such solutions and tools are information systems and others used for monitoring, documentation, optimization, end-user support, digital transformation assessment, technology management, etc
  3. Education Technologies and E-learning
Abstracts submitted under this theme should cover any area involved in infusing technologies in the classroom. Areas such as methodologies employed, available opportunities, successes, and challenges are attractive under this sub-theme.
  4. Research and Collaboration
As we all understand, collaboration is the bread and butter of scientific research. Abstracts submitted under this theme should cover areas of collaborative research and associated support systems such as those provided by Elsevier and similar platforms. Research work on digital transformation is also encouraged under this sub-theme.
