This free online self-guided course provides an overview of Emerging Digital technologies and X-data, emerging domains of technical, social, and economic significance. In the post-COVID-19 recovery period, knowledge management, electronic payments, automated customer experience platforms, consumer products, durable goods, robotics, process automation, industrial and utility components and other everyday products and services are leveraging emerging digital Technologies (EDT) and X-Data.
Emerging digital technologies (EDT) and X-Data rely on increased Internet connectivity and powerful data analytics capabilities that have transformed how we work, live, and play today. The two also raise significant challenges that could stand in the way of realizing their full potential and benefits. News about cyber threats, surveillance concerns, and privacy fears have already captured public attention. Technical challenges remain, and new policy, legal and development challenges are emerging.
The course was developed by the University of Nairobi (Kenya), the University of Johannesburg (South Africa), and UbuntuNet Alliance for Research and Education Networking (Malawi) through a grant from the Research and Innovation Systems in Africa (RISA) Fund.
