Mrs Miriam Chahuruva and Dr Sabelo Dlamini have been elected as new Trustees of the Alliance to serve three-year terms effective May 29, 2026. The elections were held during the Alliance’s Annual General Meeting held on May 29, 2026, in Mombasa, Kenya.
Mrs Miriam Chahuruva brings more than two decades of distinguished leadership and technical experience spanning higher education, research and education networking, information technology governance, and digital transformation. She currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Zimbabwe Research and Education Network (ZIMREN), where she provides strategic leadership, guiding organisational growth, stakeholder engagement, sustainability, and innovation. Before joining ZIMREN, she built an extensive career at the Harare Institute of Technology, where she rose through multiple leadership positions to become Director of ICT Services, overseeing institutional ICT strategy, infrastructure development, risk management, business continuity, digital transformation initiatives, and technology governance. Alongside her executive responsibilities, she also contributed significantly to higher education as a lecturer in advanced computing disciplines, including artificial intelligence, expert systems, software engineering, neural networks, and decision support systems.
Mrs Chahuruva has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to governance and professional service through her leadership and board roles across the technology and public sectors, including service as a Non-Executive Director of the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), Chairperson of the Zimbabwe University ICT Directors’ Association (ZICTA), leadership positions within the Computer Society of Zimbabwe, and advocacy for greater participation of women in technology through Women in ICT Zimbabwe.
Holding both a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the National University of Science and Technology, she combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, making her a respected voice in research and education networking, ICT governance, and digital innovation across Africa.
Dr Sabelo Dlamini is a highly accomplished research, innovation, and cyberinfrastructure leader with more than fifteen years of experience spanning research and education networking, telecommunications, digital transformation, advanced ICT services, and technology-driven innovation across Africa. He currently serves as Director of the South African National Research Network (SANReN), where he provides strategic leadership for South Africa’s national research and education network, guiding long-term planning, stakeholder engagement, service development, investment decisions, and national cyberinfrastructure initiatives that support the country’s research, education, and innovation communities.
Throughout his career, Dr Dlamini has held senior leadership and technical positions with prominent organisations, including the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), International Data Corporation (IDC), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Vodacom South Africa, Telkom SA, and Cisco Systems. His work has focused on advancing digital infrastructure, software-defined networking, network virtualisation, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies, while building high-performing multidisciplinary teams and fostering innovation ecosystems.
Dr Dlamini has contributed significantly to shaping South Africa’s evolving cyberinfrastructure landscape, promoting the adoption of advanced digital services, strengthening research capabilities, and supporting the development of human capacity in high-speed networking and digital technologies. He holds a PhD from the University of Pretoria, an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, and a BSc in Computer Engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, complemented by executive leadership training and professional certifications in network design and IT service management.
