In our endeavor to unlock the cast potential of education and research across Africa as is also reflected in the AfricaConnect 3 project, we aim to enhance access to digital infrastructure and technologies for African education and research institutions. As part of this, we are excited to extend an invitation to librarians across the UbuntuNet Alliance region (Eastern and Southern Africa) to submit proposals for a one-day Open Science Training, to be held alongside the UbuntuNet-Connect 2023 conference in Kampala, Uganda.
The one-day Open Science training, scheduled for October 25, 2023, will cover various aspects of Open Access and Open Data, with a hands-on exercise focusing on how to make institutional repositories Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR principles).
The UbuntuNet Alliance is committed to supporting 20 librarians to participate in the Open Science training. The selected librarians will receive full financial coverage, including a round-trip economy air ticket, full-board accommodation, local transport, and participation in the UbuntuNet-Connect 2023 Conference, scheduled to run from October 26th to 27th.
Librarians who wish to seize this unique opportunity are invited to submit a short proposal, not exceeding 500 words, detailing their interest and motivation to attend the Open Science training. The proposal submission link is available at: https://events.ubuntunet.net/event/124/surveys/
The deadline for proposal submissions is August 4, 2023. Applicants will be notified of the selection results by August 21, 2023, allowing ample time for planning and preparation.
