RENU in Twinning Partnership with SIKT

On October 23rd, 2023, the Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU) initiated a groundbreaking twinning partnership with the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research (Sikt). This collaboration, supported by GEANT, the European regional research and education network and facilitated by UbuntuNet Alliance, the research and education network of Eastern and Southern Africa, marks a significant stride in fostering international collaboration between the UbuntuNet Alliance region and the rest of the world.

UbuntuNet Alliance played a crucial role in facilitating the twinning program between RENU and SIKT, reinforcing the core mission of fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange within its community. This initiative signifies a major step forward, as one of UbuntuNet Alliance’s members engages in a twinning program with a European NREN.

The twinning partnership aims to enhance expertise exchange and mutual learning, focusing on campus networking. RENU, seeking to deploy Sikt’s successful Campus Network as a Service (CNaaS) program in Uganda, is dedicated to gaining valuable insights and methodologies through this collaboration. The anticipated benefits include the establishment of the GÉANT NREN twinning program for GN5.2, fostering global research collaboration, and creating a stronger network of institutions in the UbuntuNet Alliance region.

UbuntuNet Alliance extends its best wishes to RENU and SIKT, anticipating that the knowledge and expertise gained from this initiative will be shared generously within the UbuntuNet Alliance community. This twinning program exemplifies the commitment to advancing research, education, and innovation across the UbuntuNet Alliance region.
