UbuntuNet Alliance invites researchers, librarians, repository professionals and research leaders to the next session of the OPAR Open Science Webinar Series, featuring Lombe Tembo, Senior Grant Program Officer and Engagement Lead at ORCID. Titled “Building Trusted and Connected Research Ecosystems: How ORCID Supports African Research,” the webinar will explore how persistent researcher identifiers can connect researchers with their affiliations, publications, datasets, funding, peer-review activities and other scholarly contributions across different systems.
As research becomes increasingly digital and collaborative, institutions need accurate and interoperable research information. ORCID helps address this need by providing persistent researcher identifiers that support accurate attribution, improve metadata quality, reduce administrative work and increase the visibility of research outputs.
During the session, participants will learn how ORCID integrates with institutional repositories and research information systems, supports interoperability across scholarly infrastructure, and helps institutions build more reliable and connected research workflows. The webinar will also examine ORCID’s work with universities, funders, publishers and repository platforms, as well as initiatives supporting equitable participation in low- and middle-income countries, including the Membership Equity Program and regional consortium model.
The session will be presented by Lombe Tembo, who works with organisations across the Global South to strengthen research infrastructure through persistent identifiers and open scholarly practices. Based in Zambia, she leads grant-funded initiatives, develops strategic partnerships and supports institutions in integrating ORCID to improve research visibility, collaboration and interoperability.
Researchers, postgraduate students, librarians, repository managers, research administrators, NREN teams, ICT professionals, policymakers, funders and open science practitioners are encouraged to attend.
