UbuntuNet Alliance Chairperson, Professor Stephen Simukanga has been elected Chairperson of the Natural Sciences (SC) commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) at the 40th Session of the General Conference that took place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.
A Press Statement published by UNESCO says the the polls were held in accordance with Rule twenty-six (26) of its Rules of Procedure which allows the General Conference to elect a President and Vice-Presidents nominated from the six (6) Electoral groups who shall remain in office until the end of the next ordinary session.
The Bureau of the General Conference consists of the President, the Vice-Presidents and the Chairpersons of the committees and commissions of the General Conference.

Professor Simukanga’s appointment comes after The Zambia Higher Education Authority Director General was elected Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of Science in developing countries effective 1st January 2019.
