It was another exciting year for the researchers and education networks across the world as they converged in Abuja, Nigeria to celebrate the West and Central African Research and Education Network conference (WACREN 2024). The conference themed ‘Charting the Course: Forging Future-Ready Higher Education and Research Communities’ was on March 7 and 8, 2024 at the Abuja Continental Hotel and hosted by the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN).
Through a series of plenaries, workshops, and speaking sessions, the WACREN 2024 conference highlighted ongoing initiatives, activities, partnerships and projects that showcase how research and education networks and their communities are positioning themselves to tackle the future with African-bred and led solutions and services. The conference enabled participants to gain insights into how African research and education networks strategically adapt to future challenges. Hence, empowering attendees to chart their course forward, implement changes, and capitalize on emerging opportunities in the field.
UbuntuNet Alliance, the Regional Research and Education Network for East and Southern Africa was glad to participate in the Conference as well. Also present were participants from Research and Education Network of Uganda (RENU). The Chief Executive Officer and the Project Manager represented the Alliance.
