The AfricArXiv Open Science webinar series is an initiative that is organized by UbuntuNet Alliance in partnership with Access2perspectives. The webinar series is aimed at empowering African researchers, librarians, and institutions by providing valuable insights into adopting digital tools and persistent identifiers. Our primary goals are to significantly enhance the discoverability of African research on a global scale and streamline scholarly workflows for increased efficiency. The session will be led by Dr. Angelique Trusler. She is a Ph.D. holder in Educational Psychology, is the Community Manager at The Carpentries in Africa and a Researcher at North-West University in South Africa. She also leads efforts to enhance researchers’ data science skills across Africa, organizing workshops and training programs. Under her leadership, The Carpentries in Africa has grown significantly, hosting over 200 workshops and certifying more than 160 instructors.

The presenter, Ina Smith is the DOACJ ambassador for South Africa. She managed the pilot for the African Open Science Platform project from October 2016 until October 2019. She holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) in Computer-Integrated Education, a Higher Education Teaching Diploma, and two degrees (BBibl and BBibl Honors) in Library and Information Science. She is Planning Manager at the Academy of Science of South Africa, and has vast experience of Open Access in general, Open Science, scholarly research activities, repositories, and Open Access journal management and publishing. Ina is the DOAJ ambassador in the region of Southern Africa.
