In keeping with the theme for this year’s UbuntuNet-Connect conference to be held in Maputo, Mozambique and hosted by MoRENet, the country’s NREN, UbuntuNet Alliance has added an exciting element on the conferences’ menu: recognition of outstanding research projects or output from NREN Members.
The theme for this year’s conference, which will be held from 19-20 November and is the 8th annual conference of UbuntuNet Alliance for Research and Education Networking, is: “Beyond Connectivity- the Road to NREN Maturity.”
And in line with this theme, the Alliance is now calling for NREN Members and researchers to submit proposals for presentation of identified research projects. Researchers behind selected projects will be sponsored by the Alliance to present their work at the conference.
Speaking on the introduction of the new category, UbuntuNet Alliance CEO, Dr Pascal Hoba says the aim of the special category is to encourage NRENs and researchers to fully utilise the connectivity and services provided by the Alliance by coming up with meaningful research projects that have the potential of bringing a positive change on humanity.
“Thanks to projects like the AfricaConnect, UbuntuNet Alliance has managed to provide a regional network as well as Internet connectivity to NRENs in the region. The main aim of offering this high speed and affordable connectivity to these research and education institutions is to see them use this connectivity in coming up with relevant research projects that have a meaningful impact on societies and the Alliance wants to take advantage of the UbuntuNet-Connect 2015 to challenge NRENs to showcase the projects that our network is helping them undertake.”
Dr Hoba has since encouraged NRENs and their communities to submit their research projects or research output proposals at info@ubuntunet.net.
