UbuntuNet-Connect 2017 encourages Intra-African collaboration in research and education

UbuntuNet-Connect 2017, the 10th edition of the UbuntuNet-Connect annual networking conferences was held on 2-3 November 2017 at the Hilton Addis Ababa Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia under the theme “Enabling Intra-African Collaboration in Research and Education.”

The two-day conference was attended by over 210 participants from across the world.

The annual conference was preceded by a number of events, including the 4-day Advanced Routing training workshop organised by UbuntuNet Alliance and the National Startup Resource Center (NSRC), from 29th October to 1st November 2017, the 3-day Service Deployment Clinic workshop from 31st October 2017 to 1st November 2017 and the one-day Open Science workshop organised by UbuntuNet Alliance and the Academy of Science of South Africa Science (ASSAf) which was held on 1st November 2017.

The two-day conference was officially opened on the morning of Thursday, 2nd November 2017 by the Guest of Honor, Dr. Mahama Quedraogo, Director of the African Union Commission for Human Resources, Science and Technology (HRST).

The opening session was attended by other high profile officials, which included Mr. Jonathan Van Meerbeck, Team Leader of the EU-African Peace Facility, EU DEVCO; representative of the State Minister of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Educations Higher Education; West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN) CEO, Dr. Boubakar Barry; Arab States Research and Education Network Managing Director, Dr. Yousef Torman; and the Pan European research network, GEANT Chief Collaboration Officer, Ms. Cathrin Stover.

After the opening session, 5 paper presentation sessions followed and finished on the last day of the conference, Friday, 3rd November 2017. Over 29 selected papers were presented during the five sessions. Slides of the presentations made during the conference are available for download on the conference portal.
