UbuntuNet Alliance elects new members of the Board of Trustees for a two year term
Lilongwe, 24th April 2017:
At its 11th Annual General Meeting of Members (AGM) called in accordance with Article 18 of the Constitution of the Registered Trustees of the UbuntuNet Alliance for Research and Education Networking held on 21st April 2017 in Livingstone, Zambia, members of the Alliance elected new members of the Board of Trustees of the Alliance for a two year term following the expiry of a similar term of office for former Trustees elected at the 9th Annual General Meeting of Members held on 27th March 2015 in Lilongwe, Malawi.
NREN representatives at the 11th AGM which was hosted by the Zambia Research and Education Network (ZAMREN) elected Professor Idris Rai, the Vice Chancellor of the State University of Zanzibar; Professor of Information Systems at the University of Nairobi, Timothy Waema; Eng. Isaac Kasana, CEO of Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU); and Professor of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics at the University of Burundi Juma Shabani as the as new entrants on the Board of Trustees to join Professor Hellicy Ng’ambi, Vice Chancellor of Mulungushi University in Zambia; Profesessor Raft Razafindrakoto, ICT Director at the University of Antananarivo; and Congolese National Research and Education Network (Eb@le) CEO, Professor Dibungi Kalenda who returned their seats on the Board of Trustees having also served in the previous board.
Following the composition of the new Board of Trustees, Professor Hellicy Ng’ambi was unanimously appointed as the Vice Chairperson and Acting Chairperson of the Alliance pending the announcement of a new Chairperson of the Alliance by the Association of African Universities (AAU) mandated by the constitution of the UbuntuNet Alliance to run the process of identifying the Chairperson of the Regional Research and Education Network.
The post of Chairperson of the Alliance fell vacant after Professor John Ssebuwufu’s 3 year term of office as Chairperson finished on 31st October 2016.

Outgoing members of the previous Board of Trustees include former Vice Chairperson and Acting Chairperson Dr. Iman Abuel Maaly Abdelrahman; TENET CEO, Mr. Duncan Greaves; and KENET CEO, Professor Meoli Kashorda.
